Band of the Week: Vivian Girls

The world of rock music has always been a world full or stereotypes and thoroughly ingrained ideas of how a band should look, and unfortunately for us it has left a lot of girl groups disadvantaged in the rock world. For some reason it's okay for a band of guys to be completely ugly but if you put a group of girls on stage that are absolutely wretched chances are they will never take off. It's lucky for the Vivian Girls then that they are a damn fine looking trio of girls, it's a start that a lot of girl groups never make it passed, but they still need to have the chops to make it in a male driven world. Once again Vivian Girls make the grade as their delectable blending of lo-fi, punk, and shoegaze is a thing of aural beauty! This band flat out rocks and their self-released, self-titled debut is absolute proof of that! One of the finest records made all year, this debut is hard hitting, aggressive, and beautiful all at once. By blending the harder hitting elements of punk and shoegaze in the music and adding some lush vocal harmonies, Vivian Girls are getting the most out of all their combined elements. All week I've been listening to this now sold out (it's gonna be re-released by In the Red in the fall!) record and it really has made an insanely crazy week go by so much faster! This is definitely a must hear record and a must hear band, make sure you do so right now!!!
