This Week's Live Picks

Monday: My Brightest Diamond @ Other Music 8:30pm FREE
The only thing I like more then free shows are free shows that feature really good musicians, and tonight's free in-store at Other Music is certainly one of those. I've loved My Brightest Diamond since I first saw her open for Sufjan Stevens at Town Hall and I'm sure an intimate in-store in a hot and sweaty Other Music will do nothing to dampen those feelings. If you're gonna go please wear deodorant.
My Brightest Diamond - "Inside A Boy"

Tuesday: The Muggabears @ Death By Audio 8pm $tba
If by some slim chance you don't know who The Muggabears are by now please acquaint yourselves with them and get out and start supporting them! They are a tremendous three-piece out of Brooklyn that really should be heard and adored!
The Muggabears - "Automatic Others"

Wednesday: Sleepercar @ Mercury Lounge 9:30pm $12
There honestly wasn't very much to choose from this Wednesday evening to I opted to point you towards this show by Sleepercar. In case you are unfamiliar, Sleepcar features Jim Ward of Sparta which is enough to at least pique my interest a bit. However, I probably won't be at this show.
Sleepercar - "Stumble In"

Thursday: Love Is All @ Cake Shop 6pm $10
NYC Pop Fest starts this week and the highlight of the fest is this show by Love Is All at Cake Shop. Sure, Love Is All are playing three other shows this week but this one stands head and shoulder above the rest because of the intimacy of the venue and the outstanding nature of the festival. It's also fairly cheap, but be warned to be there early 'cause it should be at capacity.
Love Is All - "Make Up Fall Out Make Up"

Friday: A Sunny Day In Glasgow @ Whitney Museum 7pm FREE
All June long Wordless Music will be playing host to a bunch of outstanding bands at the Whitney Museum and all of them are the wonderful price of nothing at all! You may need to stand in a bit of a line and get there early but it will be completely worthwhile to see this outstanding Philadelphia band. I'm not sure if it will actually be wordless or not, but I'd expect to hear some true songs from these boys and girls.
A Sunny Day In Glasgow - "Summerlong Silences"

Saturday: Rock the Harbor @ Snug Harbor Cultural Center 12pm $20
As a promoter of this inagural Staten Island music festival I honestly can't point you anywhere else for your indie rock fix this Saturday. That said I also wouldn't point you anywhere else 'cause we got one kick ass lineup made up entirely of Staten Island bands in a beautiful location. Come get some fresh air, enjoy the music, and have a good time!!!
The Budos Band - "Chicago Falcon"
The Rabbits - "Out of Our Heads"
The Delay - "Burnout"

Sunday: Mission of Burma @ Bowery Ballroom 8pm $20
Tonight Mission of Burma play their second night at Bowery Ballroom and tonight they will be playing their landmark album Vs in it's entirety. That alone should be enough to coax you out on a Sunday night.
Mission of Burma - "Outlaw"
