Monday: Glass Ghost @ Glasslands 9pm $6
Following a nice, long holiday weekend I'm sure a lot of you will be looking to get back into the show going right away on Monday night. Unfortunately there isn't too much going on, but there is this show at Glasslands. Glass Ghost is a new side project from Eliot Krimsky of the awesome band Flying. I've only checked out their Myspace so far but based on that and the reputation of Flying I'd have to say that they're definitely worth taking a chance on.
Glass Ghost - "Like A Diamond"
Tuesday: El Guincho @ (le) poisson rouge 10pm $12
One of the biggest disappointments of the summer was the cancellation of El Guincho's summer tour which would have had me seeing him twice in the same week. It was unfortunate, but lucky for us El Guincho has finally made his way back to the U.S. for a few shows. Obviously this isn't as cool as seeing him at the Seaport for free, but it'll have to do for now.
El Guincho - "Polca Mazurca"
Wednesday: Boris + Growing @ Music Hall of Williamsburg 8pm $15
Two of the best drone metal bands in the world today have joined forces for a tour that take them to old North 6th tonight. Both Boris and Growing have deafened our ears with terrific new albums this year, and there live shows are nothing short of spectacular. I believe Michio Kurihara is joining Boris for the duration of this tour which takes Boris from a band you need to see to an absolute can't miss!
Boris - "Farewell"
Growing - "Innit"
Thursday: The Teenagers + Heloise & the Savoir Faire @ Music Hall of Williamsburg 8pm $15
It's kind of a light day this Thursday so I'm throwing a nod to Heloise & the Savoir Faire who played the After the Jump Fest this past year and were pretty solid. The Teenagers also do little to offend anyone.
The Teenagers - "Homecoming"
Heloise & the Savoir Faire - "Po'T"
Friday: Aa + Dinowalrus @ Death By Audio 8pm $7
As far as DIY Brooklyn bands go it doesn't get much better then Aa and Dinowalrus. Both of these acts are heavy on the ears, but they both know how to infuse melody into their ear splitting noise which makes them the type of bands you can still get down to a bit even if you're bleeding out of your ears. Bring some ear plugs, be ready to sweat, and enjoy the show!
Dinowalrus - "Haze on the Mobius Strip"
Saturday: Phonograph, The Lisps, + Salt & Samovar @ The Studio at Webster Hall 7:30pm $8
Lovers of quirky indie pop should all be able to find something to love about this show. The Lisps are personal favorites of mine, but both Phonograph and Salt & Samovar also bring a whole lot to the table in terms of fantastic song writings and genuine, fun sounds. For only $8 you really can't find a better deal in town on a Saturday night.
Phonograph - "In Your Mind"
The Lisps - "I'm Sorry"
Salt & Samovar - "Perfume"
Sunday: Love Is All + Crystal Stilts @ Bowery Ballroom 7:30pm $13
I don't think I need to say too much to convince you to hit this show. Crystal bands are hip and in right now and Love Is All may just be the best indie pop group on the other side of the Atlantic. This show should be an all around pleasure trove to witness.
Love Is All - "Movie Romance"
Crystal Stilts - "Departure"
