Preview: ATP NY '09 Day Two

If you're not up here watching the bands you can still hear some of the fun as WFMU will be broadcasting a bunch of sets all weekend. Today they'll have sets from Deerhunter, Atlas Sound, Black Dice and more so make sure you tune in to hear it.

1:30pm: Sufjan Stevens (Stage 1)
It has been ages since I last saw Sufjan Stevens, but there really couldn't be a better way to open day 2 of a festival then with the sleepy, wistful tunes of Stevens. Hopefully he will stay away from his BQE project for today and focus on the tremendous songs of his past albums, or maybe he'll debut a few new ones while up there! The possibilities are endless and we're excited!
Sufjan Stevens - "The Man of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts"

2:35pm: Bridezilla (Stage 2)
The third Australian band mentioned so far (Dirty Three and The Drones yesterday), Bridezilla is a group of teenaged girls poised to bring young rockers to their knees. The music is freakin' outstanding, even the weird violin sounds piping through, and I'm really looking forward to getting a taste of what these ladies can do on stage.
Bridezilla - "Brown Paper Bag"

3:45pm: Circulatory System (Stage 2)
After the split of Olivia Tremor Control, W. Cullen Hart started the Circulatory System with other Elephant 6 luminaries and crafted an album that obsesses with the exploration of the larger and the smaller. The band took more then 7-years to record their upcoming album and though I haven't heard it yet other people seem obscenely excited about the music.
Circulatory System - "Overjoyed"

5:00pm: Atlas Sound (Stage 2)
At this point I have seen Atlas Sound several times, but with each successive viewing I realize the absolute genius that goes into Bradford Cox' music. Atlas Sound is a more personal release then what he does with Deerhunter but today we'll get to witness both incarnations of his music in a very short period. That alone is gonna be worth it, but I'm really hoping Noah Lennox joins him on stage to reprise one of the best songs of the year "Walkabout".
Atlas Sound (feat. Noah Lennox) - "Walkabout"

6:15pm: Sleepy Sun (Stage 2)
Sleepy Sun have quickly gone from the toast of San Francisco to a band that is one the rise around the world. In a short time they have truly grown a rabid fan base that obviously includes the ATP and a slew of bands on the bill. Now we don't know too much about them but we are definitely wondering what their live show is gonna be like.
Sleepy Sun - "New Age"

6:45pm: El-P (Stage 1)
What can I say about El-P that hasn't already been said? No seriously, what can be said? I've never had the good fortune of seeing him live so he's definitely high on the list of acts I want to see this weekend. He should be on your list as well if you're going so head on back to the first stage and get ready for a serious assault on your senses.
El-P - "Tuned Mass Dumper"

8:00pm: Autolux (Stage 1)
It's been five years since Autolux release their debut LP, but over that time they have kept busy touring the world with some of the biggest rock bands in the world and have built up a pretty lofty reputation as a rocking and loud band. They're currently working on their follow-up and hopefully they'll avoid any sophomore jinx, but after five years it probably shouldn't be called a sophomore anything.
Autolux - "Audience No. 2"

9:15pm: Shellac (Stage 1)
Steve Albini, Bob Weston, and Todd Trainer are back again, playing an ATP festival for the 700th (approximate) time and loving every minute of it. The amazing thing is as many times as they play this festival they will probably always be invited back because they flat out rock harder and better then most acts could ever aspire to. They may be billed as a "Legacy" act but they're still gonna bring it Saturday night.
Shellac - "Squirrel Song"

10:45pm: Deerhunter (Stage 1)
I will never turn down a chance to see Deerhunter! This band has become one of my new favorites over the last few years thanks to their spectacular records and incredible live show. It may be simple and straight forward (since Bradford ditched the dresses at least) but it's such a thorough and fantastic sounding show that that alone makes it worth every minute you spend rocking along with the band.
Deerhunter - "Disappearing Ink"
12:15am: Animal Collective (Stage 1)
While a bunch of you guys have probably seen Animal Collective a dozen times this year I have somehow managed to miss every local show they've done this year. It's disappointing especially when you consider that Merriweather Post Pavilion may go down as their best record yet. Luckily the year isn't over just yet and I get the chance to see them Saturday night, though this may be the last chance to see them in the States for a little while.
Animal Collective - "Grass"
