Best Songs of the Decade: #11 - 20

20. Peter Bjorn & John - "Young Folks"; Who knew whistling could be this catchy? Maybe if Andrew Bird would have simplified things he would have wound up on this list! Either way there is no denying how great this song was the first time you heard it and it still is, unless you overplayed it for yourself.

19. Gnarls Barkley - "Crazy"; No doubt this song HAS to be on every list of this kind. Placement is a personal choice but there is no denying the immediacy and greatness of a song of this caliber. What a great, unexpected pairing of talents.

18. Outkast - "B.O.B."; Pitchfork's #1 is my #18, not a big deal really all these songs are pretty great and "B.O.B." is certainly no exception. If I could rap along to it a little better it'd probably be rated higher, so my horrible rapping skills are its Achilles heel. Go figure.

17. Justin Timberlake - "Cry Me A River"; I probably should have included "My Love" on this list too, but whatever we'll stick with "Cry Me A River" his breakup song for Britney Spears. It's a great song that shows that even celebrities have their weaknesses, though none of them are in song making.

16. Kanye West (feat. Lupe Fiasco) - "Touch the Sky"; Kanye has never been shy. His swagger and bravado are half the reason we love him, and his style is definitely fly. So pretty much all his boasts and his rags to riches story are pretty great. Plus the horns on this are pretty incredible.

15. Battles - "Atlas"; Steady and building, this may just be the best math rock song of all-time. The song starts off slowly before those mechanical chirps known as singing chime in. From there it rises and falls to fantastic success.

14. Animal Collective - "My Girls"; Welcome to the theme song for a new generation of hippies. At some point Animal Collective will probably become a modern version of the Grateful Dead, but for now we will revel in the beauty of their hypnotic, psychedelic songs, none of which are better than this.

13. The Knife - "Heartbeats"; The second time this song makes the list, this time The Knife make it a creepy, dark, and hypnotic electropop tune. It's in the same vein as the Annie version but so much deeper thanks to the darkness they shroud it in.

12. UGK (feat. Outkast) - "Int'l Players Anthem (I Choose You)"; Looking back (and forward) at the lists I have made few artists have more fingerprints on it than Outkast does, but their role in this song is fairly small compared to their others. Instead UGK dominate this track, sending out a celebration of men that are playing their way to the top. The beats, the lyrics, everything is A+ on this track.

11. Kelly Clarkson - "Since U Been Gone"; American Idol dominated a lot of the pop landscape throughout the decade, but I've never seen a second of the show. Kelly Clarkson, the show's first winner, didn't really make a splash until she made an album called Breakaway which took her from a novelty game show winner to a bona fide pop singer. "Since U Been Gone" is the anthem for a generation because of the spunk and passion it's sung with.
