Best Unofficial Day Show: After the Jump's End of CMJ ShindigWhere: Brooklyn Bowl

Lineup: 1pm - Savoir Adore, 2pm - Grooms, 3pm - Surfer Blood, 4pm - Harlem, 5pm - Soft Black, 6pm - Lovvers, 7pm - Bear In Heaven, 8pm - Small Black
Why This Show: After last year's rain induced debacle After the Jump planned ahead and booked an indoor venue to prevent any last minute cancellations. We also managed to throw together a lineup that includes a couple local favorites, a few of the big buzz bands of the festival, and a lot of great music. Plus you can shell out to bowl during the show too, how many other showcases have that going for them?
Listen: Savoir Adore - "We Talk Like Machines"
Grooms - "Dreamsucker"
Surfer Blood - "Floating Vibes"
Harlem - "South Of France"
Soft Black - "The Earth Is Black"
Lovvers - "Human Hair"
Bear In Heaven - "Lovesick Teenager"
Small Black - "Weird Machines"
Best Official Showcase: Sub Pop/Hardly Art ShowcaseWhere: Mercury Lounge
When: 7pm- 3am
Cost: $12 or CMJ Badge
Lineup: 7pm - Unnatural Helpers, 8pm - Dum Dum Girls, 9pm - Moondoggies, 10pm - The Dutchess & The Duke, 11pm - Golden Triangle, 12am - Pissed Jeans, 1am - Obits, 2am - Male Bonding
Why This Show: Sub Pop has long been one of my favorite labels and this year they have a few bands lined up that I have yet to see but really need to! Unnatural Helpers, Moondoggies, Obits, and Male Bonding are all on that list, but the whole lineup is full of can't miss bands that you should probably see while that badge still gets you into places.
Listen: Unnatural Helpers - "Dirty Dumb Comical"
Dum Dum Girls - "Baby Don't Go"
Moondoggies - "Changin'"
The Dutchess & The Duke - "Living This Life"
Golden Triangle - "Red Coats"
Pissed Jeans - "People Person"
Obits - "Pine On"
Male Bonding - "Rehearsal Song"
Best Showcase CMJ Doesn't Want You to Know About: Topman/JellyNYC ShowcaseWhere: Roots Studio
When: 9pm - 1am
Cost: FREE (w/RSVP)
Lineup: The Almighty Defenders, Neon Indian, Cale Parks
Why This Show: With two of my top 10 picks playing their only (or only announced) shows of the marathon this is pretty much the place to be Saturday night, unless of course you plan on seeing these bands tomorrow night at Maxwell's in which case by all means go enjoy something else and save the room for us!
Listen: The Almighty Defenders - "All My Loving"
Neon Indian - "Deadbeat Summer"
Cale Parks - "Wet Paint"
Top 5 Bands to See:
1. The Almighty Defenders; Their one and only CMJ show of the week this is a band that you seriously should not miss. Individually the Black Lips, King Khan, and BBQ Show all put on ridiculous shows, together this might be something you will never forget.
2. Neon Indian; You may have found out about one or two of their unannounced shows this week so maybe you already saw them, but most of you probably didn't know about any of them but this one, so get there and enjoy.
3. Male Bonding; It's 2am on the last day of the marathon, you are either ready for bed or looking to stretch this week of partying out as long as you can. If you're in that last group definitely make a point of heading to the Mercury Lounge for the last band on the Sub Pop bill.
4. Harlem; I've been waiting all week to see these guys since I knew they were playing ATJ's showcase, but I'm super excited to finally see a band I've been loving since they first burst onto the scene.
5. Surfer Blood; If you happened to miss their first 11-shows of the week you might as well catch one of their last and see what you've been missing all along!
Best of the Rest...
- Young and the Hungry @ The Delancey
- Mum @ (le) poisson rouge
- Rain Machine + Sharon Van Etten @ Bowery Ballroom
- Dark Meat @ Glasslands
- AAM Party @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
