Tuesday's Recommended Release (Part 1)

Having performed together since 2004 the two cousins, Tom Van Buskirk and George Langford, that make up Javelin have managed to hone a truly unique take on electronic music. On stage the duo perform using two stacks of boomboxes, all set to the same FM station, and broadcast it via radio waves to the audience. It allows fans in the audience to bring their own boomboxes to shows creating a louder and fuller experience then they ever intended. On record the duo utilize similar sounds and samples to create a tightly weaved sound that seems to inspire movement and imagination.

Javelin is a record that does a beautiful job of mixing samples, video game sounds, and both spoke and sung words to create a sound that will get people moving. The music is immediate, coursing through your ears and into your soul, forcing movement of all sorts to come out. Whether it's a gentle head bob or straight up dancing there is no doubt you will be moving in some way listening to this record. And the music stays with you long after it's over.

The unfortunate news is that the 12" is now only available via digital download, which is depressing when you consider the original vinyl format and art work that it was sold in. With only 500 copies printed the band hand selected a slew of other artists' records and screen printed their logo on top of iconic album work from well known and obscure artists alike. It only added to the unique sounds found on the records and is a real treat if you manage to track down a copy.
